Core Charges
What is a Core Charge ?

A core charge is a refundable charge that is added by manufacturers to the price of a re-manufactured or exchange part as the manufacturer wants the old part returned.  They'll often re-use/re-build a new part with the returned core.  Typically, core charges are added to items like engines, transmissions, alternators, power steering racks, starters etc.  When purchasing one of these parts through our site, you'll see the core charge added, and you'll pay the full price of the item plus the core charge.  You'll then be reimbursed the core charge when you send back the old part you’re replacing.

How to request a Core Return:
  • Please ensure the core is in ‘re-buildable’ condition before sending a request.
  • Email us at info@gigautoparts.com with the subject “Core Return - Order Number XXXXXXXXX” and include your order number associated with the core.  We'll email you a Return Slip with the information you'll use to send your core to us.  Please include a copy of your invoice, packing slip, or order confirmation with the core. Please be sure to return the core clean and drained of any fluids (if applicable), securely packaged in the same box the new part came in.
  • Return shipping charges for cores are the customer’s responsibility. We recommend using a shipping carrier that provides tracking information.  We unfortunately cannot apply a core credit if the core doesn't make it back to us. We ask that cores are sent back for credit within 30 days.
  • Once returned and accepted, please allow 5-7 business days to process your core return and apply the credit to your original payment method. Please note, the credit is for the core charge amount only.  It can take several business days for the actual credit to post to your account depending on your bank. Please monitor your bank statements or PayPal account for the credit to post. Cores that do not meet core standards will not be eligible for credit and will be disposed of after customer notification.
